My site appears on page 1 of Google, though not at the top of the page.  My site shows up on the bottom of page 1, in position 9.  Is this good?

The answer is maybe.  It depends on who is above you.  If your competitors are in position 1 through 8, then the answer is a resounding NO.  If you are on page 2, then even worse.

If you sell products on your site and the links above yours are going to non-transaction sites then you might be ok.  Bottom line is that you need to be at the top of the page in order to get the traffic you need to be successful (from an SEO point of view).
